High-performance metal powder, tube and strip products at The Paris Air Show 2019

Tuesday, June 11, 2019

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products (SMP) is exhibiting at the 2019 International Paris Air Show from 17 to 20 June 2019 at the Le Bourget Parc des Expositions.

Five of the six AMETEK SMP business units will be showcasing their range of high-performance metal powder, tube and strip products, manufactured for the aerospace industry and used in multiple aviation applications.

AMETEK SMP includes six of the best-known businesses in the metallurgical industry: Reading Alloys, Hamilton Precision Metals, Superior Tube, Fine Tubes, AMETEK SMP Wallingford and AMETEK SMP Eighty Four. Each business has its own individual history that in some cases stretches back more than 75 years.

Mike Cullum, Director Sales and Marketing - EMEA says: “In terms of general market trends, the aerospace industry remains as strong as ever with record high levels of growth that are showing no indication of slowing down in the near future. As the aerospace industry continues to develop, so demand continues to grow for our titanium and specialist alloy products. From high-purity titanium powders and master alloys to high-precision specialty strip, foil, wire and tubes, AMETEK SMP products are renowned throughout the aerospace industry for their outstanding quality and reliability.”

The AMETEK SMP businesses supply specialist metal products for both civil and military aircraft and space programmes, in a variety of materials. High-performance master alloys produced by Reading Alloys include vanadium, molybdenum, niobium and chromium as well as a range of superalloys used in airframes and jet engines across the global aerospace industry. Reading Alloy also produces a range of powder coatings for thermal barrier, wear barrier and surface enhancement applications.

Titanium, stainless steel and nickel-alloy based tubing manufactured by Fine Tubes and Superior Tube are specifically designed for use in fuel lines, actuation and instrumentation for civil and military aircraft. Additionally, the high-pressure tubing products are ideal for hydraulic and pneumatic control systems that need to withstand pressures up to 5,000 psi, such as the high-pressure hydraulic systems of the Airbus A350 and A380.

Precision strip, metal foils and ultra-thin foils from Hamilton Precision Metals are employed in multiple applications in the aerospace sector including diaphragms for specialist sensor applications. The custom re-roller of precision strip metal foils also produces a range of brazing foils, manufactured to 1.5 micron for use in jet engine fan blades and housings.

Finally, custom shaped stainless wire from AMETEK Wallingford is produced for a range of aerospace applications, including the push-pull mechanisms required for remote activation of aircraft controls, such as throttle, fuel shut-offs, landing gear and emergency functions. The business also produces nickel stripfor aircraft batteries, heat exchanger and bellows

Representatives from AMETEK SMP will be at Stand G160, Hall 2B at the Paris Air Show.
