Plymouth has a rich history going back thousands of years and is one of the largest natural sea ports in the world. Plymouth is also where Sir Francis Chichester began and ended the first solo circumnavigation of the globe and the Plymouth Hoe is where Captain Cook and Charles Darwin set sail on their most famous journeys.
Rising high above Plymouth is the Dartmoor National Park. The area covers 368 square miles and is of great Archaeological interest. This area is significant for its many granite tors, (100 all named) thought to have begun life about 280 million years ago as a result of molten rock solidifying. Local and National Schools and visitors alike make regular trips to various parts of the moor to understand and witness findings from the Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman times.
